A new drone the size of a cell phone case is up on KICKSTARTER. The drone is designed to help users take aerial selfies. This project is indicative of the advancement of drones technology, soon everyone can have their own robot. If you can hide your arm or selfie stick in a selfie, good for you. For those who can’t, there’s a drone for that.

The Airselfie is a tiny drone that’s housed in a phone case, and it lets you take selfies or group shots from further away than you could with your arms or a selfie stick.

Airselfie already went through its Kickstarter campaign, where it amassed more than €500,000 (about $534,000), and the company behind the tiny selfie-taking drone is now taking pre-orders.

The Airselfie costs $260, and it’ll be ready for shipping in May this year. It’s a tiny drone that fits inside a phone case. And it has a built-in 5-megapixel camera.

The idea is that Airselfie lets you take selfies from further away than you could with your hand or a selfie stick, so that you can get more of the scenery behind you.

It can lift off straight from your hand.

You can control it with virtual joysticks in the Airselfie app. The Airselfie app has three flight modes with varying degrees of control for the drone itself. After the Airselfie takes a photo, the photo is stored in the Airselfie’s 4GB storage, or you can transfer it to your phone over the WiFi connection between your phone and the Airselfie. The Airselfie drone is made of aluminum, and it’s surprisingly light at only 52 grams (1.8 ounces). The battery lasts about three minutes, but it only takes 30 minutes to charge either with a microUSB cable, or with the battery that’s built into the optional power bank case. Airselfie completed its Kickstarter campaign, but you can pre-order it now. You can pre-order the Airselfie for $260 here, and it’ll be delivered in May, according to Airselfie’s website.

The Airselfie fits the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 6, 6 Plus, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Concept Audi celebrates the marriage between the exterior, interior and powertrain that better encapsulates the additive manufacturing process where cars would be grown and unassembled. The inner shell rests in the outer shell with six mechanical splices and does not respect the floor of the car. The gap around the cabin exaggerates the feeling of a floating island that can be modified freely. In the recent year’s manufacturers started to release more intricate concept cars which are eventually put into production in one form or another. Not that long ago Audi released an all new concept which is like nothing else out there. The 2020 Audi Uno Concept has a really unique design which makes its cabin look like it is floating in mid-air. So far this is just a concept but a ¼ scale prototype has been printed via a new laser printing method. This allowed its designers to print the car from just one piece, just like the designer intended it to be.

WHAT IS IT?

Like we said, this is Audi’s latest concept and it features a really unique design scheme. For starters, it is the first Audi in more than a decade not to use their iconic grille design. Instead, the four circles are mounted on a horizontal LED bar which is then extended via the two headlights. Also, instead of the usual grille, the car now boasts a more aggressive design with a large air intake and a more aggressive splitter. We can see a very similar trend in the back where the car’s design is dominated by straight lines and a large LED bar.

2020 AUDI UNO CONCEPT DESIGN

While the lower half of the car is quite unique, the top half is actually nearly symmetrical. Also, the cabin is separated from the main body by small gaps which light up white in the front and red at the back. This further gives it the feel that it is separated from the main body. Another unique aspect of this concept is the glass that covers the entire cabin. This is quite impressive because it gets darker when electric current goes through. Also, in the small gaps that surround the cabin, there are mirrors which further give the impression that the main body is detached from the cabin.

AUDI UNO CONCEPT – WILL IT EVER BE MADE?

We are quite sure that the 2020 Audi Uno Concept is just that, a concept. However, certain technologies that are found on it could very well be put into production. The active glass would make a great privacy glass while the mirrors could give the car a much more impressive design. Also, the new front end, which has been praised by many, might come on a future production Audi. This is actually great news considering that the latest Audi cars basically look like facelifts of older models. Unfortunately, though, most of the rest of the design will likely remain in a concept stage.

What to bring, where to sit and more

The Dubai Metro, everybody’s favourite mode of public transport. Whether you live in Sharjah, or Ajman and of course in Dubai, it cannot be denied that the Metro has virtually connected the city and its neighbouring emirates. There are a lot of rules surrounding Dubai Metro and the Roads and Transport Authority has released a list of rules and regulations as well as the fines that each violation incurs.

Did you know however that some things are allowed inside the Metro? Here are some lesser known rules so you can take advantage of taking the train.

You CAN bring bicycles inside the train

Before you bring your full-sized road bike or mountain bike inside the train, HOLD IT. The Dubai Metro only allows foldable bikes inside the train and these bicycles have to go inside the appointed luggage areas inside the train. For added convenience you can also use the ‘wider’ exit gates inside every station so you can carry your bike outside with ease.

Sitting in the connection between two Metro carriages is not allowed

It also provides inconvenience to those who are walking between the two carriages. Standing in the connection is allowed but slumping to the floor will net you the eyes of fellow passengers and if it comes to it, the Metro officials.

You CANNOT stand inside the luggage area

For tens and thousands of times, the luggage area is not a breathing room where one can stand and hang back! Lots of travellers take the Dubai Metro and they need the luggage area so that their bags don’t move around the train. Please don’t be a hassle to fellow passengers and realise that you are not a literal baggage to even merit standing there.

You will face fines for being in the ladies carriage

The Dubai Metro imposes strict regulations as to the area that separates the common carriage and ladies’ carriage. Men who are caught standing inside the ladies areas will have their card scanned and they of course face embarrassment from fellow passengers. It also does not matter if you are someone’s husband, male friend, or partner. Younglings are an exception.

Cyclists can use the Metro to cross the road

For cyclists, it’s always a struggle to find somewhere to cross the road. For added convenience the Dubai Metro allows any and all bicycles, to use the station as a pedestrian bridge to get from one side of the road to the other. Full-size bikes are not allowed to take the train however. There’s point #1 for that.

Road conditions, tax rebates and wealth are few of the prime reasons why you would see every sports car on earth cruising the roads of Emirates. The year 2017 has brought us some best sports cars. This article outlines some of the most exotic ones that should really grab your attention.

Here is the list of top ten sports cars in the UAE for the model year 2017.

2017 BMW M4 Coupe

The BMW M4 2017 packs a remarkable 3.0-litre turbocharged engine under its sporty body kit. The potent engine is capable of delivering 431 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. Pair it with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission of your choice and you can hit the 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and take it all the way to 250 km/h. The price of the 2017 BMW M4 starts at AED 395,000.

2017 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

Priced slightly above the BMW M4, the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is built for speed lovers. Its aggressive exterior design is aerodynamically efficient and gives you a feel as you’re driving a Formula One car. Under the hood, the 911 GTS carries a 3.8L powertrain that churns out 430 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque and can be mated to either a manual gearbox or the PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission system. This best sports car of 2016 is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.0 seconds (with PDK transmission) and maxes at 306 km/h. The price of the 911 GTS starts at AED 457,400.

2017 Audi R8 V10

Calling the Audi R8 2017 anything other than ‘Power house’ would be an understatement. It is accessible in two powertrains i.e. a 5.2-litre V-10 that delivers 540 horsepower and a 5.2L V10 plus mill that pumps out a mighty 610 ponies. The R8 takes only 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill. The exterior styling has not been changed much compared to the previous models; however, the R8 2016 boasts a significantly lower weight for improved performance. It would cost you atleast AED 549,000.

2017 Mercedes Benz AMG GT S

When it comes to performance cars, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S can never be left out. It competes with the likes of Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. However, if we compare the exterior design of the three cars, we would definitely say that the AMG GT S stands out. Under its elongated hood, the AMG GT S carries a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 powertrain that yields 510 horsepower and can achieve the 100 km/h mark in just 3.8 seconds. It also features exclusive AMG Ride Control suspensions and a Race transmission mode. The price of the Mercedes AMG GT S 2016 starts at AED 575,000.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette

The best thing about the Chevrolet Corvette 2017 is its matchless performance and affordable price tag, which is a lot less than the rivals like Mercedes AMG GT S. The Corvette features a light weight carbon-nano fibre and an aggressively designed body kit. The powertrain includes a 460 horsepower 6.2L V8 unit which can be mated to either a 7- speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission system. Push the pedal to max and you hit the 100 km/h mark in 4.0 seconds. The Corvette is priced at AED 330,000.

2017 Jaguar F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type 2017 is accessible in both coupe and convertible body styles. Moreover, it gives you two engine options i.e. the 3.0L V6 unit churning out 335 horsepower and the 545 horsepower 5.0L V8 engine for power hungry petrolheads. With the regular engine you can go from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, but the mighty V10 unit takes only 3.7 seconds to cover the same distance and goes all the way to 322 km/h. The base model is priced at AED 299,000.

2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S

The fastest sports car in the Porsche 718 family is the 718 Cayman S. The Cayman S’s coupe body style combined with the signature round head lamps and the aggressive side air vents give it a frightening persona. The 2.5L turbocharged engine supplies 350 horsepower and can take the car from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 285 km/h. The base trim starts at AED 236,400.

2017 Dodge Viper GTS

The Dodge Viper 2017 is equipped with a sturdy 8.4L V10 engine that cranks a mighty 640 horsepower and 813 Nm of torque, which is best any naturally aspirated sports car in the world offers. The Viper 2016 features a unique lighter and stiffer body structure with weight ratio of 50:50 between the front and back wheels for ideal aerodynamic efficiency. It can run from stationary to 100 km/h in around 3.1 – 3.3 seconds. The price tag stands at AED 409,999.

2017 Maserati Ghibli S Q4

The new Maserati Ghibli S Q4 dubbed as the ‘Sporty Intelligence’ combines a spectacular performance with state of the art technologies. It carries a 3.0L V6 engine that delivers 410 horsepower and could achieve 100 km/h speed in just 4.8 seconds. The new eight speed Zf automatic transmission featured in the Ghibli S Q4 is administered by an auto-adaptive software program, which allows you to switch from auto mode to sporty manual setting for enhanced performance. The Maserati Ghibli S Q4 2016 starts at AED 339,000.

2017 Alfa Romeo 4C

The Alfa Romeo 4C 2017 is equipped with a turbocharged 1750cc 4-cylinder mill creating 240 horsepower. The Italian coupe renders an unprecedented performance with a good fuel economy rating. It is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 258 km/h. The base price of the Romeo 4C starts at AED 330,000.

UAE is home to the latest and most exotic sports cars. From rich Sheikhs to young entrepreneurs, everyone feels the rush to own a luxury sports car.

DUBAI’S EIGHTH CAR FREE DAY DRIVE saw a vibrant start yesterday morning with top officials leading the residents in ditching their cars and using public transport.

Tens of thousands of cars were off the roads in Dubai as employees of about 2500 entities including 200 major government departments and private firms took part in the annual drive of not driving for a day. And this time, it was for an additional cause of contributing to donations for charity organizations and tree plantation by Dubai Municipality.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality, led a team of directors and top officials of government departments in riding the Metro from the Etisalat Station to the Union Station.

The officials later joined hundreds of municipal employees and residents at a huge exhibition area set up at the Union Metro Park for celebrating the day.

“Dubai Municipality launched the initiative to explain to the people how important it is to reduce the use of cars on the street and use the public transport. We have a high quality public transportation [system] and we feel we have a lot of possibilities, with the cooperation of all, in reducing the carbon emission and the effect on the environment,” Lootah told Gulf News.

As announced earlier, Lootah said, the municipality will link the event with the Year of Giving initiative and set aside money corresponding to the number of participants for donating it to charities and for planting trees.

He said the initiative held under the theme “Not a day but every day,” has helped changing the attitude of people in reducing the pollution caused by motor vehicles.

Several people took the Metro, while some took buses and others opted for car pooling and cycling to participate in the biggest environmental awareness drive of Dubai Municipality.

Here’s a nifty lifesaving idea from Noras Performance out of Portugal. U-Safe is a lifesaving buoy that can drive itself around in the water by remote control, meaning it can reach a victim quickly, and transport them to safety if need be.

The U-shaped U-safe is a battery powered device you can use in place of any lifesaving “donut.” When it’s thrown in the water, it propels itself using a pair of electric turbines that take in water and fire it out the back. A remote control thumbstick gives an operator the ability to drive it as a small watercraft – and it’s quite nippy as it makes its way across the water. It looks like about the quickest way we can imagine to get a piece of lifesaving gear out to a distressed person in the water, particularly in difficult surf.

Once a victim has been reached, the U-safe has enough power to help drag them back toward safety – which could make it very handy on large ships that might have to launch a rescue boat otherwise.

Patent filings describe possible future iterations that might charge themselves through solar power, or that might automatically self-deploy and self-drive to the location of a crew member who’s gone overboard with a special GPS locating device on their person.

Other ideas include a larger version with a seat that could be used for recreational purposes as well, and another that can also be used for surveillance purposes.

According to the Noras website, U-safe is “coming soon” and has been for over a year, so we’ll keep an eye out for updates!

As battery technology increases with the ever-growing use of electric cars, a flying vehicle will become more and more possible

While Jetpack Aviation is making huge leaps forward in flying car design and technology, they are not the only ones. There is actually competition in the flying car market

FLYING CARS ON THE HORIZON

The guys who brought the world its first working jetpack are now looking to get into the flying car business. David Mayman of Jetpack Aviation (JPA) took some time to discuss his new concept designs with New Atlas.

The concept vehicle would be a manned multirotor vehicle with a dozen propellers arrayed coaxially. The vehicle would be capable of speeds up to 145 km/h (90 mph) and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL). One of the drawbacks of this technology at this point in development is how limited fly times are given the current state of battery capacity. However, as more traditional car companies go electric, the technology will catch up rapidly. According to Mayman, “…the beauty of distributed electric propulsion is that it’s very, very scalable. The way that electric motors work, it’s hey, you wanna make something for two people? OK, you just add power to the electric motors.”

CLOSER THAN YOU THINK

The rapid pace of current technological innovation is actually making the first flying cars relatively easy to develop. Drone technology can be thanked for much of the advancement. “Drone technology has advanced all of that stuff – the autopilot, the stabilization – to the point where we nearly don’t have to do any R&D for that. We can just about start from off-the-shelf products and customize it for our use,” says Mayman.

There is actually plenty of competition in this burgeoning field. Some of the biggest names in both tech and aviation are throwing their concepts into the race. A Skype co-founder is investing millions in a super-fast flying car concept that reaches speeds up to 250 km/h (155 mph), a Google co-founder was even spotted coming out of a flying car in October of last year, and perhaps the most exciting prospect comes from Airbus’s plans to develop an autonomous flying car sometime this year.

Engineers from Letvision, a Turkish startup, have found a way to turn a BMW 3 Series coupe into a real-life Transformer.

The startup made a video showing off how the sports car turns into a robot, all while showing off some of the team’s amazing engineering skills.

Some critics may feel that the “real-life” Transformer is an act of CGI, but the company hosted a Facebook live event today showing its Transformer in action.

Some of Letrons main features include neck and head movement, arm movements, wrist action, interactivity, adjustable lighting, remote control software and is enriched with the capability to speak. The real-life Transformers also features a power system to manage the energy distribution, fog that can be controlled interactively and a dynamic eye, which allows highly effective visuality. As far as safety, the Transformers have front and rear security sensors.

As of right now, the cars are not drivable in traffic, but will be able to function via remote control. Letrons says it will be possible in the near future due to its electric engine.

According to Letrons website, Letrons can be available for sale, but buyers will need to “share their reasons for use, and must meet the criteria of the Letrons team.” The site also highlights some other models like the “BIZMUT”, “ARGON”, “WOLFRAM” and “TANTAL.” Letrons first model was the “ANTIMON” which took 8 months to build.
